ST. PETERSBURG, Fla., (Oct. 31, 2024) For the second consecutive year, the St. Anthony’s Triathlon has been designated a Florida State Championship Race by USA Triathlon. Registration continues for race weekend, April 25-27, 2025. Events include the Olympic, Sprint and Meek & Mighty triathlons.
This year, USA Triathlon is designating north and south state championship races in three large states – Florida, California and Texas. The St. Anthony’s Triathlon will serve as the north championship while a championship race in South Florida will be held later in the year.
The State Championship events give athletes the opportunity to race for state titles and provide an increased chance to qualify for USA Triathlon National Championships.
“It is such an honor to again be able to offer this opportunity to our athletes of all ages,” said Patrick McGee, Triathlon manager and race director. “This recognition by USA Triathlon means that our athletes of all abilities will get the chance to become a champion here and then put their talents to the test against all other state champions at the national USAT events.”
State Championships include a non-drafting Sprint- and Olympic-distance race for age group athletes, USAT said. The top overall male and female athletes and top athletes per age group in the Sprint- and Olympic-distance races will be state champions.
The USAT Olympic- and Sprint-Distance National Championships is an annual event that brings together the best U.S. age group triathletes in the Sprint- and Olympic-distance. Athletes must qualify to participate at the national events. Click here for more information about nationals and dates for other state races.
USAT recently announced that Milwaukee, Wisconsin, will host the 2025 USA Triathlon Olympic- and Sprint-Distance National Championships on Aug. 8-10, 2025. The St. Anthony’s Triathlon, which was voted the second-best triathlon in the United States in a USA Today 10Best Readers’ Choice Award contest in 2023, is marking its 42nd year in 2025.
In its first year, the Triathlon welcomed about 600 athletes to swim, bike and run along the scenic waterfront and through the picturesque neighborhoods of St. Petersburg. The Triathlon now hosts thousands of individual athletes and dozens of relay teams over the course of the event.
The three-day St. Anthony’s Triathlon Weekend includes:
· The Olympic-Distance Triathlon, set for Sunday, April 27, is known for its talented professional field.
· The Sprint Triathlon, also on April 27, features shorter distances than the Olympic-distance race along the same course.
· The Meek & Mighty Triathlon, on Saturday, April 26, is a race for novice adults and children who are new to the sport of triathlon. The pool swim kicks off the race, which finishes with a bike ride and run around downtown St. Petersburg.
The Sunday events are scheduled to feature a swim in Tampa Bay; a bike ride that takes athletes by high-rises and into quiet neighborhoods that bustle with excitement as athletes whiz by; and a run through one of St. Petersburg’s oldest neighborhoods.
The weekend also includes the St. Anthony’s Triathlon Sports & Fitness Expo, a showcase of the latest equipment for multisport athletes, workshops for athletes to prepare for the events and information tables featuring various St. Anthony’s Hospital and BayCare services.
