The St. Anthony’s Meek & Mighty Triathlon has been designated a part of the 2025 USA Triathlon Youth State Series, a 20-state event that provides additional opportunities for youth athletes to compete throughout the country.

With this recognition for the Meek & Mighty, every race in the 2025 St. Anthony’s Triathlon has a USA Triathlon (USAT) designation. The Olympic-distance event was named the North Florida State Championship Race. The Sprint-distance event is part of the 2025 USA Paratriathlon National Qualifier Series.

The St. Anthony’s Triathlon, which was voted the second-best triathlonin the United States in a USA Today 10 Best Readers’ Choice Award contest in 2023, is marking its 42nd year in 2025. The Meek & Mighty Triathlon, which has divisions for children and adults, has been a part of the St. Anthony’s Triathlon since 1994.

“Once again, USAT has honored us by designating one of our races to be a part of a national series,” said Patrick McGee, Triathlon manager and race director. “For kids, triathlon is truly an extension of play. They swim, they bike and they run. Putting those activities together creates an opportunity to join a sport that they can be a part of for a lifetime.”

According to USAT, the Youth State Series for ages 5-17 consists of localized youth race series across the United States, where young athletes earn points based on their performance within their respective age groups. At the conclusion of the season, a final leaderboard will highlight the top performers.

Each state will host a minimum of three races to provide multiple opportunities for youth athletes to compete and accumulate points throughout the season. The Meek & Mighty is one of five events in Florida.

“We are thrilled to announce the expansion of the Youth State Series in 2025, which will include many outstanding local races,” said Zoe Da Silva, USAT Youth Coordinator. “The growth and development of youth events across the United States is essential, as it fosters physical fitness, mental resilience and sportsmanship in young athletes … The youth segment truly represents the future of our sport.”

The three-day Triathlon Weekend includes the Meek & Mighty on Saturday, April 26 featuring a pool swim followed by a short-distance bike and run. The Olympic-distance race on Sunday, April 27 features a swim in Tampa Bay and a bike ride and run through the streets of St. Petersburg. The Sprint-distance event, also on April 27, has shorter distances along the same Olympic course. Registration continues for race weekend, April 25-27.

The weekend also includes the St. Anthony’s Triathlon Sports & Fitness Expo, a showcase of the latest equipment for multisport athletes; athlete workshops; and information tables featuring various St. Anthony’s Hospital and BayCare services.
