Thousands Gather in St. Petersburg for the 40th St. Anthony’s Triathlon
ST. PETERSBURG, FL (April 25, 2023) – World Champions, Olympians, and a well-rounded roster of professional athletes comprise the field for the 40th St. Anthony’s Triathlon on Sunday, April 30. Thousands of professional and amateur athletes of all ages and abilities will be in downtown St. Petersburg from April 28-30 to attend the Sports and Fitness Expo and compete in one of three events: the Meek & Mighty Triathlon, Sprint Triathlon or the Olympic distance race at St. Anthony’s Triathlon.
The Olympic distance Triathlon and the Sprint Triathlon will be held Sunday, April 30, while the Meek & Mighty Triathlon will be Saturday, April 29.
Last year’s triathlon weekend events attracted more than 2,300 athletes from 40 states, the District of Columbia, and 10 countries. This year’s registration is on track to have more than 3,000 participants.
Approximately 32 professional triathletes will compete this year. Last year’s male and female winners, Matthew Sharpe and Paula Findlay, will be returning to defend their titles.
Valentino Agnelli, Martie Andrie, Jeffery Ballard, Braxton Bokos, Kevin Collington, Marc Dubrick, Andy Krueger, Eric Lagerstrom, Vant Lammers, Yegor Martynenko, Luis Ortiz, Steven Parker, Danilo Pimentel, Evan Price, Nicholas Quenet, Matt Schafer and Jason West are the other male professionals.
The other female professionals who will be competing are Grace Alexander, Lisa Becharas, Haley Chura, Jenna Horner, Vittoria Lopes, Laura Mathews, Rachel Mensch, Rachel Olson, Kaylee Slade, Samantha Snukis, Jodi Stimpson and Emily Tato.
Professionals will compete for a $53,000 prize purse.
The 2023 St. Anthony’s Triathlon weekend events are as follows:
Friday, April 28- Sunday, April 30:
- Sports and Fitness Expo, Vinoy Park, 701 Bayshore Dr NE
- Friday: Noon – 6 p.m.
- Saturday: 9 a.m. – 6 p.m.
- Registration is available on site at the Expo.
- Sunday: 7 a.m. – 3 p.m.
Saturday, April 27:
- Meek & Mighty Triathlon, North Shore Pool, 901 North Shore Drive
Shorter distance race for youths ages 7-10, 7:30 a.m. start time.
Sunday, April 28:
- St. Anthony’s Triathlon, North Shore & Vinoy Parks
Olympic distance race (1.5K swim, 40K bike and 10K run)- 6:50 a.m. start time.
- St. Anthony’s Sprint Race, North Shore & Vinoy Parks (750-meter swim, 20K bike, 5K run)
- Approx. 8:45 a.m. start time.

Traffic Delays Expected During 40th St. Anthony’s Triathlon
ST. PETERSBURG, FL — April 11, 2023 – Thousands of athletes will swim, bike and run along St. Petersburg’s waterfront and through its scenic neighborhoods as they compete in the 40th St. Anthony’s Triathlon on Sunday, April 30, 2023.
With about 3,000 athletes expected to participate through the weekend event, race officials are reminding residents that some streets will experience intermittent road closures and travel delays. The Olympic and Sprint distance races will follow the same routes as past years, and delays can be expected from approximately 7 a.m. to 2.p.m.
Most roads will be open, but traffic will be stopped at various times on several streets to accommodate the safety of both the athletes who will participate in the race and spectators who will watch from the sidelines. Local residents are encouraged to find alternate routes during race time. All course information and maps can be found through the St. Anthony’s Triathlon website at https://satriathlon.com/course-maps/.

Neighbors who would like to be a part of the action have several ways to join the fun throughout the weekend. The St. Anthony’s Triathlon is open to all levels of athletes, from amateur to professional. For kids and novice adults, the Meek & Mighty Triathlon occurs on Saturday, April 29; and the main Triathlon, for both Olympic- and Sprint-distance races, runs on April 30. To be close to the action but not in the races, many volunteer opportunities also are available.
