ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (November 16, 2010) - The St. Anthony's Triathlon, one of the best known Olympic-distance triathlons in the United States and now part of the World Triathlon Corporation (WTC) 5150 Triathlon Series, will have open registration starting December 1, 2010 at 9 a.m., EST . "The 5150 Series will be the largest international distance triathlon series in the world and will be the first non-drafting international race series of its kind. "We are proud to see that the St. Anthony's Triathlon has become quite popular over the years and well known not only in our community but worldwide," said Bill Ulbricht, president of St. Anthony's Hospital. "We look forward to another fantastic triathlon and being part of the 5150 series."

The race will be held on May 1, 2011 and the three-day weekend event includes a sports and fitness expo, the Meek & Mighty Triathlon and St. Anthony's Triathlon. For registration for the 2011 St. Anthony's Triathlon, visit: SATriathlon.com or call (727) 953-9005. "Given the popularity of St. Anthony's Triathlon and now with qualification spots available for the 5150 U.S. Championship event, we believe registration capacity may be met very quickly," said Philip LaHaye, WTC's 5150 director of operations and serving as St. Anthony's Triathlon race director.

The St. Anthony's Triathlon traditionally marks the year's first major race in the U.S. and typically attracts some of the world's best athletes. St. Anthony's Triathlon has been named "Race of the Year" by USA Triathlon and has also served as a qualifier for the Ironman World Championship. In 2010, it was once again the USA Triathlon Regional Championship. For the past two years, the race has been broadcast nationally on the Versus network.

More information on the 5150 Series, including professional and age group qualification details for the 5150 U.S. Championship, will be available at www.5150.com in the coming weeks.
