ENTRY DEFERRALS MUST BE RECEIVED BY April 1, 2011. YOU MAY DEFER YOUR ENTRY TO 2012, NOT BEYOND. YOU WILL BE REQUIRED TO PAY A $75 DEFERRAL FEE TO REGISTER FOR THE 2012 EVENT. YOU MAY NOT TRANSFER YOUR ENTRY TO ANOTHER ATHLETE.

USA Triathlon
St. Anthony's Triathlon is sanctioned by USA Triathlon. You must be a current USAT member to participate or you may purchase a one-day license at athlete check in. To limit wait times at athlete check in, you may purchase an annual license online at www.usatriathlon.org. All USAT rules will be in effect during the event. Protests of penalties assessed for rules infractions must be filed with the USAT Head Official within 60 minutes after the protesting individual finishes the race.

Athlete Check-in
You must furnish proof of current USAT membership or you will be required to purchase a one-day license. You must also present a photo ID.
RELAY TEAMS: All relay team members must be present, at the same time, to pick up your packet. Substitution of a relay team member will not be permitted beyond April 1, 2011.

Wristband
A wristband printed with your race number will be affixed to your wrist at Athlete Check-in. This band will identify you as an official participant and must be worn during the entire event. The wristband is required for medical identification purposes and allows you access to the transition area and post-race food & beverages. You will not be allowed to remove your bicycle and gear from the transition area following the race without your wristband affixed to your wrist. Please do not remove your wristband until after the post-race party!

Mandatory Bike Check-In
Mandatory bike check-in is noon-8 p.m. Saturday, April 30th. If you do not arrive by 8 p.m., you will not be allowed to check in your bike. All bicycles must be checked into transition and left overnight. Bicycles will not be permitted to enter transition on race morning. Sorry, no exceptions! You will have full access to your bike on race morning, but will not be allowed to remove it from transition until the start of the bike.

Race Day Parking
For a nominal fee, race day parking is available at four downtown venues:

Bayfront Center – 1st Street & 4th Avenue South
Progress Energy Park – 1st Avenue South & 1st Street
Progress Energy Garage – 1st Avenue South & 2nd Street
BayWalk Garage – 2nd Street & 2nd Avenue North

Race Numbers
There are three race numbers in your race packet that you are required to display during the event:

The adhesive bicycle frame number must be attached to your bike with the race number clearly visible from both sides of the bike. Do not affix the number to your bike frame until after you’re prepared to enter transition on Saturday. Lost bike numbers cannot be replaced! The small adhesive helmet number must be worn on the front of your bike helmet. The run number must be displayed during the run segment on the front of your body. Pin your run number to your shirt, swimsuit or race belt with the four safety pins provided in your race packet.

Body Marking
Body marking will take place from 4:45-6:45 a.m. on Sunday at both entrances to the transition area. You will not be permitted in the transition area on race day without your wristband and your body marked. Do not apply body lotion or sunscreen until after you have been body marked. Be sure that the volunteer who marks you does so using the race number printed on your wristband.

Transition Area Access
The transition area will be open on race day from 4:45-6:45 a.m. only. Any athlete, including relay team members, who arrives after 6:45 a.m. will not have access to the transition area. Only athletes who are wearing their wristband and are body marked will be allowed access. Any bike not properly displaying the bike frame number will be removed from the transition area during the swim. You will not be allowed access to the transition area to reclaim your bicycle and gear until after the last athlete has started the run (approximately noon).

Relay Team Transition Area Access
To reduce congestion, only the relay team cyclist will have access to the transition area. Relay teams must pass the timing chip to their teammates in the holding areas just outside the transition area following each segment. The relay team cyclist may secure all personal items belonging to the swimmer and runner at the relay team’s bike rack.

Timing Chips
You are required to pick up your timing chip during packet pick up. If you lose your chip, additional chips will be available on Sunday morning at the swim start. DON’T LOSE YOUR CHIP. Each chip is encoded with your specific registration data so do not trade your chip with another athlete! The chip must be affixed to either ankle prior to the swim start and must be worn during the entire event. Athletes are responsible for crossing the timing mats at the end of each segment (e.g., swim finish) and for the safe return of the chip at the finish line. Relay team members must pass the chip to their teammate after completing their segment of the race. Crossing the timing mats as you re-enter transition to re-claim your gear with your chip in place will erase your transition times. Chip owners: please provide race management with your chip number at Athlete Check-in.

Swim Cap
The swim cap placed in your race packet must be worn during the swim. Do not trade your swim cap with another athlete, as the caps are color-coded to assist race management in organizing you at the swim start. YOU WILL BE DISQUALIFIED IF YOU START IN THE WRONG WAVE !!!!!!!!!!!!

Wetsuits
The use of wetsuits during the swim will be allowed if the water temperature on race morning is 78.0 degrees or less. If the water temperature exceeds 78.0 degrees but is less than 84.0 degrees, an athlete may wear a wetsuit but will be ineligible for awards and USAT national ranking points. A water temperature measurement will be conducted on Saturday to forecast the likely water temperature on race day and the likelihood of whether wetsuits will be allowed.

Swim Start
The swim starts at Spa Beach, approximately 3/4 mile south of the transition area. To get to Spa Beach on race morning, walk south on Bayshore Drive to 2nd Ave NE. Turn left (east) on 2nd Ave NE and walk out toward The Pier. Participants should proceed to Spa Beach for the start no later that 6:15 a.m. Be sure you start with other competitors wearing the same color swim cap and in your correct division. Failure to wear the official swim cap or starting in a wave other than the one you've been assigned will result in your disqualification.

Swim Course
Athletes will have 65 minutes to complete the swim portion of the race. Please note, you should be able to complete the distance in the alloted time as you will not be allowed to continue the race if you do not make the cut off. Follow the orange buoys during the entire swim course. Yellow buoys mark the two turns. Keep all buoys on your left by swimming to the right of each buoy. Athletes who cut any portion of the swim course will be disqualified. For your safety, certified water safety personnel will be monitoring the swim course with kayaks and rescue craft. The swim course ends at the steps leading up the seawall in Vinoy Park.

Swim Waves
To be announced no later than April 15.

Special Needs Table
There will be a table set up at the swim finish for the collection of your eyeglasses, medications or other special needs items. Be sure to clearly mark all items left on the special needs table with your name and race number.

Transition Area Conduct
For safety reasons, you will not be permitted to ride your bike in or out of the transition area. You must walk or run while on the grass in the transition area. Please watch out for other athletes as you move through transition and follow the instructions of race officials and volunteers.

Bike Course
Each athlete is required to wear an approved helmet during the bike segment. You must have your helmet securely fastened on your head before you mount and dismount your bike. Drafting and blocking (impeding the progress of passing cyclists) are not permitted during the race. USAT officials will monitor the bike course and strictly enforce these rules.

All bikes must be back in transition by 12:30 p.m. or you will be disqualified.

Bike Bottle Exchange
One water bottle exchange station will be located midway through the bike course just past the golf course. Please discard all empty bike bottles and sports nutrition wrappers at this station. This will make our clean-up efforts much easier. Discarded bottles or gear will not be returned after the race.

Run Course
Water stations are located at the run start and at every mile on the run course. Each station will be stocked with Water and Gatorade. You must complete the entire course and circle the traffic cones at the run turnaround. A timing mat will be placed at the turnaround to ensure each athlete completes the entire run course.

Finish
The run course officially closes at 1:30 p.m. All participants still on the course at this time will be asked to move to the sidewalk. The finish clock will remain on and times recorded until 2:30 p.m. Participants who continue on their own will assume all risks and must adhere to local traffic laws. Official individual finishers will receive a finisher's medal.

Dropping Out
Please notify a race official and return your timing chip at the finish line if you drop out of the race.

Unsportsmanlike Conduct
Unsportsmanlike conduct or the verbal abuse of any race official or volunteer during the race or at any time during event weekend will result in your immediate disqualification.

Timing & Results
Official race results will be posted prior to the awards presentation. Please report any discrepancy to a race official prior to the start of the awards presentation. Athletes who do not wear the timing chip during the entire event will not be scored. Please note that the clock at the finish line reflects the start time of the first swim wave.

Medical Care
St. Anthony's Health Care will provide comprehensive medical care for all participants during the event. The biggest risk to athletes during the race is the potential of heat-related injuries associated with inadequate hydration prior to and during the event. Be sure to drink plenty of fluids throughout race weekend!

Course Safety
Because St. Anthony's Triathlon is conducted within an urban environment, it is virtually impossible to keep the entire course closed to vehicular traffic. Be aware of your surroundings, obey the instructions of the traffic control officers and volunteers and be considerate of others during the competition.

Awards Party
The awards party begins as soon as you cross the finish line! Be sure to stick around for live music, fruit, snacks, juice, pizza, cold Michelob Ultra beer and Columbia Restaurant's famous black beans & rice and Cuban bread. The awards presentation will begin at 12:30 p.m. for the Professionals and Elite Amateurs. The general awards ceremony will follow. The top 10 finishers in each division will be presented with a framed watercolor print depicting scenes from St. Anthony's Triathlon. Professionals will be competing for a $65,000 prize purse. Elite Amateurs will be competing for over $10,000 in prizes.

Results & Awards
Race results will be posted online (satriathlon.com) immediately following the race. If you are a top 10 finisher and cannot attend the awards presentation, we'll mail you your award. Simply send us your request in writing with $10.00 (checks payable to St. Anthony’s Triathlon) to 1200 Seventh Avenue N., St. Petersburg, FL 33705.
